Getting a degree or certificate from the Pickens Technical College in business, marketing, and public administration is a concrete and practical step toward a variety of careers in the public or private sector. From non-profits to brand-new startups in every industry, business and marketing skills are essential to run basic operations smoothly. Whether you plan to open up your own business—from a bakery to an auto shop—or launch a career in marketing with an established company, Pickens Technical College offers two certificate programs to help you get there: Small Business Management and Marketing: Hospitality & Tourism.

Small Business Management program

The Small Business Management program prepares students for employment in an office or business environment with an emphasis on computer skills, entrepreneurship, and e-commerce. If you plan to attend a four-year university, you’ll learn practical skills at a much lower tuition rate to get an affordable head start on your education.

Within our business programs, Pickens Technical College makes an effort to keep class sizes small, allowing for greater teacher-student interaction and individualized training. As a student, you’ll learn the fundamentals of accounting, tax preparation, and web coding that any business, no matter the industry, needs to succeed.

Experienced business instructors

Jennifer Cross, our lead instructor for Small Business Management classes, has over 22 years of teaching experience to bring to our business courses. Sheearned a BS degree in Business Administration specializing in finance and accounting from the University of Denver, and completed her Master’s degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado. Cross holds a professional teacher state license endorsed in Instructional Technology and holds a vocational license in Career and Technical Education specializing in business, math, and accounting.

Marketing: Hospitality & Tourism

The Marketing: Hospitality & Tourism degree empowers students to pursue careers as leaders in hotels, restaurants, travel and tourism, convention centers, event management agencies, and more. Our two-year marketing program focuses on designing for excellent customer service and profitable business success, including strategies of product development, pricing, promotion, distribution, event planning, marketing, and public relations. As a final capstone course, students will participate and complete a marketing cooperative learning project at an approved site for real-world, hands-on experience.

Experienced tourism and hospitality instructors

Courtney B. Tanguma, Hospitality and Tourism Instructor and DECA Advisor at Pickens Technical College, leads our marketing certificate program.
