MOTORCYCLE SERVICE TECHNOLOGY (POWER SPORTS)
This program is designed to cover basic elements of the motorcycle Service Technology Trade, and to gain competency for entry level employment in the industry. The students will learn basic mechanical theory, vehicle system service and repair, engine overhaul procedures, troubleshooting, diagnostic procedures, and electrical theory. Shop management, design and business practices are and integral part of the program. The focus of Motorcycle Service Technology is motorcycles, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, and personal watercraft.
Students may enter the program i n the Fall and the Springs.

Instructor Tom Laing
Mr. Laing is the instructor in the Motorcycle Service Technology Program at Pickens Technical College. His goal is to train students to enter the Motorcycle Service Industry in many job positions and at various skill levels.
Tom has taught at Pickens for 16 years. He came to Pickens after working for 14 years in the Motorcycle Service Industry. Tom has experience with all aspects of American and Metric Motorcycle dealership operation with the majority of his experience invested as a line mechanic/technician and service manager.
During that time he received Manufacturer Certification for several American and Metric Motorcycle brands including: Artic Cat, Kawasaki, Harley Davidson, Honda, and Yamaha.
Tom is active in the Skills-USA Student Organization ad was recognized as the Advisor of the Year by his peers in 2017. Mr. Laing has advised students in Motorcycle Technology competitions at the Local, State, and National levels. His student shave placed in the top 10 every year at the National Level from 2001-2016. Several students placing in the top three have won motorcycles to be used as instructional aids at Pickens Tech.
Mr. Laing holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology with an emphasis on teaching form Denver Metropolitan State College. Additionally, Tom holds a Master of Education with and emphasis in School Administration from Grand Canyon University and three Master’s Degrees in Religious Studies from Liberty University.
Mr. Laing believes that Pickens Technical College is the best source for training in the Motorcycle Service Industry with rates that are super- reasonable.
