continues to mentor her with her clipper cutting skills. Within her 8 years LB is a dedicated business
owner, and freelance contractor as a Barber/Makeup Artist for Hulu and Fox Studios in Los Angeles,
California, and continues to work with Hollywood actors and actresses. LB started working for Pickens
Technical in 2021 as a post-secondary Barber instructor. LB's motto “We Start Together and Finish
Together” is her signature as she continues to mentor young adults in the community and industry to
follow their dreams.

Tari has had the privilege of practicing in many different pharmacy specialties from community
(retail) to specialty compounding. Her favorite areas of practice are oncology and working with
the underinsured and underserved communities throughout the Denver Metro area. As an
experienced CPhT of 30+ years, Tari has been teaching and training technicians in the
industry for most of her career. In 2021, she was provided the opportunity to share her years
of experience with the next generations of pharmacy technicians at Pickens Technical
College. She is exhilarated to be a part of APS, Pickens Technical College, and future

teacher and then directed the second location of Kids Tech in APS for 4 years. Jessica taught
ECE at Pickens for 4 years. She then transitioned to the Apprenticeship to Teaching program
in 2022. Early Childhood Education has always been a passion of hers. She believes that the
first few years of education for children are extremely crucial and loves watching her students
flourish and become more comfortable and confident in their teaching abilities!

Ray has experience in Diesel Heavy Mechanic working on engines, transmissions, Air brake
Systems (Drum and Disc), Hydraulics, Electrical, cooling systems, High and Low-pressure
fuel systems. He spent time working on equipment from buses, farm harvest equipment,
over-the-road trucks, off-highway trucks, boats, heavy equipment, small engine repair, CDOT
plow trucks, Military equipment, Airplane De-icers, Airport ground support equipment (Tugs,
Pushbacks, Belt loaders). In addition, Ray was a supervisor at Transit in Austin, Tx with 25
mechanics under his supervision. Prior to Pickens, Ray had 4 apprentices that did their Heavy
truck/Bus apprenticeships for about 4 years apiece. He trained them on everything from air
brakes to engines to cooling systems and all of the different components and systems on the
vehicles.

He started in the industry at a general import garage working on all types of German vehicles
and furthered his education in VW/AUDI, BMW, MINI, and Mercedes Benz. He then
transitioned into a more performance-based Subaru specialty shop where he serviced and
enhanced vehicle performance on all makes and models. After working on performance
vehicles he moved to Crown Lift Trucks as a field service technician which led to more of a
management role with 27 technicians working from Denver to New Mexico. He has been
teaching automotive since 2022 at Pickens Technical College where he enjoys sculpting the
new technicians of tomorrow. Before Pickens, he had numerous apprenticeships and has
always enjoyed teaching new generations of technicians the tricks and tips he has learned
over his fairly short but rigorous career in the automotive industry.

Keith’s background includes 8 years of experience in social work prior to returning to school to
become a nurse. His experience includes addiction treatment/mental health nursing and
home health care. As an instructor at Pickens Tech Keith has worked with a number of Health
Pathway programs including Medical Assisting, Nurse Aide, and Practical Nursing. He
currently works as the Simulation Coordinator for the Health Pathway. Keith works with all of
our Health Pathway students to provide medical simulation activities to help students develop
clinical readiness skills.

Vanessa Gonzalez Acosta has worked in the industry since 2011. Vanessa’s experience
comes from different specialties from pediatrics to oral surgery. Her ultimate goal was to
become an instructor in dental assisting to help share her passion for dentistry. Vanessa
started with Pickens in August of 2022. Before then she shared her knowledge in the dental
field while training new assistants hired at the offices she worked for.

Bonnie Hazelrigg got her cosmetology license in 1967 and has been teaching since 1972.
Bonnie joined Pickens Cosmetology Department in 1995 and has focused on the nail tech
industry since 2020. Bonnie was a salon owner and manufacturer representative for Redken.
Bonnie also worked internationally for Gigi and Clean’N Easy Wax Brands, where her job was
to train sales consultants and stylists. Through the years Bonnie has worked behind the chair,
owned a salon, worked as a manufacturer rep, guest artist, distributor rep, sales consultant,
and teacher! She can teach hair, skin, and nails as she stays active in her own education.

Heidi Heath previously attended Pickens Dental Assisting Program. She then went on to
complete a 300-hour internship with a notable dental practice before being hired full-time at
that practice and later returned to join our team as an instructor. Heidi Heath has been
teaching at Pickens since 2017. Heidi not only has the technical ability to succeed but has the
work ethic and will to continue learning and pushing herself to be the best. She has a passion
for helping all students reach their potential and loves to challenge students to be curious and
take chances when learning.

Sam has been teaching at Pickens for 5 years, since 2018. Before that, he taught math at
Aurora Central High School and at St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy in Wisconsin. He has
taught every grade from 6th-12th, except 7th graders. At Pickens, Sam supports 12+
programs with math content. He helps with anything math related, from calculating working
pressures for irrigation systems to statistical process control and anything in between. He
introduces himself as the campus math nerd and loves to see students learn to meaningfully
apply math concepts they never thought would be useful.

Jane Idika’s background is in the nursing profession, and has worked as a nurse for 29 yrs+.
She has acquired skills and experience in acute, skilled, and long-term settings in various
areas of the healthcare setting. As a patient and staff advocate, she learned how to listen,
reflect and rationalize before making decisions on what affects others. Jane became a nursing
educator in 2018. Her knowledge and skills have qualified her to educate future nurses
according to NLN (National League of Nurses) and ANA (American Nurses Association).

China. He started a franchise in Germany in Jan of 2020 but then needed to shut the doors on
that and move to the USA due to pandemic-related restrictions. Fortunately, this new door has
opened for me and I am very happy to be here! Mr. Johansen has worked with students of all
ages in various classroom settings for 15 years. He taught children and adults English as a
foreign language, often with a specific topic focus for the particular group that he was
teaching. He is passionate about all things business and education!

positions throughout her career working in family medicine, urgent care, ob-gyn and fertility.
As well as 8 years experience as a Program Director for Concorde College and IntelliTec
College. Peggy discovered her love of teaching as a Lead Medical Assistant when students
were scheduled for their externships at UCHealth. Teaching one on one or in small groups,
getting them acclimated to multiple clinics so that they could earn their training to graduate. “I

Yong has been in this industry for about 20 years now. Starting out as a cosmetologist, and always
wondered about the skincare industry, So she began her journey as a Skin Therapist here at the
Pickens Technical College as an instructor. Yong started teaching here at Pickens Tech as a night
Adjunct instructor in the cosmetology department. After 2 years as a night adjunct instructor was
incredible so as soon as the day shift was open she took the day shift. In no time Esthetic departments
were looking for new instructors. Yong took this job and is still here in Esthetic as an instructor today as
more as mentoring old and new students every year!

The majority of Ed’s career he spent working in Ford service where he achieved Senior
Master status. During that time he personally trained a number of apprentices, and it is during
that time he discovered his love of teaching. Most of Ed’s teaching years have all been here at
Pickens Tech where he started as an adjunct in 2009/10 working with both the Auto and
Diesel programs. At the start of the 2010/11 school year, he was moved into a full-time
contracted position and has remained in that role since. He currently serves as Transportation
Chair and has served on numerous teams and committees during his tenure. He is proactively
pursuing the addition of EV training to Pickens and serves as co-chair on the Colorado ZEV
Workforce Coalition for the State of Colorado. Additionally, he serves as a board member and
soon-to-be officer for the North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT), an
organization dedicated to improving automotive Instructional practices.

Adi has been working with animals since 2010, from shelters to urgent care and animal
behavior. Her focus has been sheltering veterinary medicine, which is different from a regular
veterinary clinic. She has done everything from adoption counseling at a shelter, to assisting
with a tail amputation for a rat, emergency care, dental cleaning and x-rays, surgical
anesthesia monitoring, vaccination, and disease prevention, to leading a team and training.
She started teaching in Fall 2022, and loves it! Adi enjoys teaching others and helping them
embrace and grow as an individual and their skills. Adi hopes to inspire future veterinary
students!

community beautification projects in Texas. She began with Pickens in 2017 and became an
adjunct instructor specializing in Woody Plants ID, Interior plants, and Arboriculture. She is

has trained throughout his career. Darcy began his teaching career as an electrical teacher’s assistant

Kim has worked in public education her entire 35 year career, first in California and then in Colorado.
She has served as an attendance counselor, a psychiatric social worker, a FEMA and Department of

provider, and an Education Liaison for the Denver Juvenile Court. She has responded to multiple

Representative for Johnson & Wales University, my alma mater. It was in this position that
Pam fell in love with career and technical education, career advising, counseling, and learned

pursue her Master’s degree.
In 2005, Pam relocated to Colorado and in 2011 graduated with her Master’s and began

Erika started from humble beginnings working in migrant and indigent care out of school and
through the past 17 years has risen through multiple specialties. Her work experience
includes Primary Care, Cardiac, Nephrology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Colon and Rectal.
Erika comes to Pickens with a strong background in corporate training and Special Needs aquatic
safety. She is passionate about service to our community and has always strived to help those who are
less fortunate with volunteer work. It is a goal of Erika’s to continue to serve the community through
healthcare. She would like nothing more than to prepare others with the same passion for helping

Began Teaching in 2010
Michael started his career with an apprenticeship and moved his way up over the years to
being a salon owner. He spent almost 20 years working behind the chair until he needed
more. Michael then went back to school in 2010 to gain his cosmetology instructor/operator's
license and has been teaching ever since. Michael has been fortunate enough to have had a
constant stream of amazing mentors along the way during my time teaching. He has learned
a great deal from others in the industry and absolutely loves where he's landed.

Mrs. Wisneski held various positions in business, including receptionist, secretary, and
administrative assistant, before beginning her career as a teacher in 1991. Mrs. Wisneski began
teaching and coordinating the Executive Internship Program at Pickens in 2006. Prior to that, she
taught Business & Technology courses for 15 years at Hinkley High School where she previously
graduated as a proud T-Bird. Mrs. Wisneski enjoys helping students find a career that they will love
while at the same time helping to build a pipeline of quality employees for local companies.

Joseph has been fascinated by what technology has to offer and where the industry is
heading for over a decade. He was the site-based Technician at Pickens for 9 years when the
opportunity to teach the Cyber Technician program opened up in 2023. Joseph brings his
years of experience to the classroom to provide unsurpassed instructional education. Joseph
was a tutor under the No Child Left Behind Act and worked closely with the previous Cyber
Technician instructor that placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Technology-related fields at Skills USA.
