Cosmetology Program in Aurora, CO
The Cosmetology program provides training in hair, skin and nails. Classes will be held between 4 and 7 hours daily on a year-round basis in order to meet the state requirement for completion. Training during the first semester is an introduction to all subject areas and is achieved through theoretical learning in the classroom and hands-on learning in the laboratory setting. Intermediate and advanced training is the combination of theory pertaining to cosmetology and clinical training which is achieved through a clinical set-up with students working on patrons and/or mannequins. Students may have the opportunity to participate in an internship during their advanced training as an extra elective.
Note: Colorado State Agency requires a minimum of 60 credit hours and/or 1800 clock hours. Upon meeting school requirements for receiving a certificate, a student may be eligible to register for the State Licensing Exam.
Courses are taught sequentially, and build a student’s framework of skills through competency-based, theoretical instruction. Students must complete all coursework with a grade of “C” or better and all clusters must be completed before testing for state licensing. Courses are evaluated by examination and demonstration.

DIRECTOR OF COSMETOLOGY OCCUPATIONS: BETH ROSHON
Beth Boshon is the Director of Cosmetology Occupations who runs the Cosmetology, Barbering, Nail Technician and Esthetician Programs here at Pickens Technical College.
Beth has taught at Pickens since 2013. She taught both Cosmetology and Esthetics before becoming the director in 2019. Beth actively sought out a position at Pickens because it aligned with her career goals of bringing together her cosmetology and teaching licenses. Beth has also taught high school English and Special Education for 5 years before coming to Pickens Technical College.
Beth Roshon is a licensed cosmetologist who earned her certificate in 2004 from Hair Professional Career College. She has worked a wide variety of jobs in the field, mainly focusing on hair and skin for the last 15 years. She completed her Bachelors in Education from Illinois State University in 2008. Beth is a licensed professional teacher in early childhood education, special education and personal care services. She holds both secondary and post-secondary credentials.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR AND INSTRUCTOR: Ramona Clyncke
Ramona Clyncke is the Assistant Director of Cosmetology Occupations. She is the instructor who works with students to help prepare them for licensure.
With 20 years of teaching experience, Mrs. Clyncke came to Pickens in 2018. She came to Pickens to expand and grow by working with our post secondary population. Mrs. Clyncke also taught at Boulder TEC for 10 years as a cosmetology instructor and for St. Vrain Valley School District for 9 years as a hairstyling instructor.
YEARS IN INDUSTRY:
Mrs. Clyncke has worked in the cosmetology industry since 1985. During that time she owned a salon, and both worked and managed several other salons. Additionally, she has rented a booth at an upper scale salon. She supplied her own products and set her own hours. Knowing Cosmetology from all different angles allows Mrs. Clyncke the ability to teach from a very knowledgeable position.
Mrs. Clyncke is a licensed cosmetologist holding both a secondary and a post-secondary teaching credential in personal care services. She also has a certification in microdermabrasion chemical pool and Medicool electric files. She has had specialized training in many color lines including Matrix, Pravana, Kenra, and Schwarzkopf International. She also holds many certificates in skin care from Sanitas and Alexandrea Sugaring as well as other waxing applications.
In addition to teaching at Pickens, Mrs. Clyncke taught Hair Styling in the St. Vrain Valley School District and in the Boulder Valley School District.

Cosmetology allows the student to work towards being an entrepreneur and/or having tremendous flexibility in terms of work hours and days. Cosmetology is definitely an industry that allows for continued professional and personal growth.

NIGHT INSTRUCTOR: DEBBIE DANIELS
Known as Mrs. D to her students, Debbie Daniels has been working in the Cosmetology Industry for 34 years. She has been teaching at Pickens at 6 months. During the day, Mrs. D works in her private salon and then she teaches at Pickens in the evening.
Mrs. D enjoys cosmetology because she sees the importance of being able to connect with people. She says, “You can turn a bad day for them into a great one by making them look good and feel good about themselves.”
Mrs. D enjoys teaching because she likes being with the new students and getting them excited about all the opportunities they have in this industry. Mrs. D also enjoys getting new students a strong start towards earning their cosmetology license.

NIGHT INSTRUCTOR: SONJA GILES
Sonja is a Cosmetology teacher who works with students on how to become a licensed Cosmetologist and start working in the industry.
Sonja has taught at Pickens since 2018. She came to Pickens to teach students because she was a student here years ago. Sonja feels the education she received at Pickens was very strong and she wants to make sure other Cosmetology students also get a great education.
Sonja has worked in the Cosmetology industry since 1985. During that time she has worked as an active stylist and she also opened her own salon. Sonja enjoys learning and experimenting with the ever changing ways of the industry.
Sonja is certified as a post secondary instructor and also as a secondary instructor.

INSTRUCTOR: BONNIE HAZELRIGG
Bonnie Hazelrigg is a Cosmetology Instructor who works with students in the Intermediate Courses of the Cosmetology Program.
In 1977, Bonnie Began visiting Pickens as a frequent Industry Guest Speaker sharing industry trends and new techniques with our students. A salon owner and manufacturer representative for Redken, she became a member of the Cosmetology Advisory Board in 1977, contributing to the growth and development of the department. Bonnie began teaching at Pickens as a substitute teacher in 1995 and has worked continuously in the department since 2011.
Started teaching as a manufacturer rep for Redken in 1972 and began teaching at Pickens as a guest speaker!
Bonnie has 19 years experience as an Education Specialist for Redken, sharing product knowledge and proper use for hair, skin, and nail care products. During this time, she was personally responsible for Redken’s expansion throughout the Colorado region.
Bonnie has also worked internationally for Gigi, as well as Clean’N Easy Wax Brands as a waxing specialist. For 15 years, Bonnie’s job was to train sales consultants and stylists with Clean’N Easy Wax Brands.
In 1995, Bonnie’s career at Pickens began as a substitute teacher. Bonnie has taught everything in the Cosmotology School, including nails, waxing and cosmo.

INSTRUCTOR: SHIRLEEN WOODS
Ms. Woods is a Cosmetology/Nail Technology instructor who works with students to prepare them to take the state exam and gain employment.
Ms. Woods has 30 years teaching in Cosmetology. She taught at Emily Griffith for 10 years, at private schools for 10 years and has taught at Pickens since 2009.
YEARS IN INDUSTRY:
Ms. Woods has been working in the Cosmetology industry since 1976. During that time she has enjoyed working in the salon and using her experiences to help her students navigate the ups and downs of the profession. She enjoys seeing her students become licensed in the Cosmetology/Nail Tech profession. Students of Ms. Woods have won competitions, been successful salon owners and have published in trade magazines.
As a Cosmetologist, Ms. Woods has enjoyed working in many salons from full service hair and nails, skin care as well as specialty hair replacement centers. Ms. Woods is still “doing hair” for a few long time clients.

Deborah Vigil is a Cosmetologist Instructor who works with students to help them obtain a current Cosmetology License.
Deborah has taught at Pickens since 2000. She came to Pickens to work nights for the Cosmetology Program. She has also taught at Englewood Beauty College, at Antoin de Chez and also at Aveda for 8 years.
Deborah has worked in the Cosmetology industry since 1974. Deborah is a trained/certified Cosmetologist. She holds advanced certifications and has received awards and honors for her work. Deborah participates in ongoing trainings and is active with Skills USA.
