Pickens Technical College’s Cyber Technician course prepares students for a career in a field in dire need of skilled workers right now, particularly in Colorado. As more businesses open their doors in Colorado, the need for cybersecurity and data analytics is only growing, and there’s a shortage of skilled workers in this area. At Pickens, you’ll be set up to complete your CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ Certifications, which will put you at the top of the list to be hired by any number of companies trying to build their brands and secure their data in the state.

Cybersecurity workers are so coveted by Colorado businesses that Colorado Springs businessman Brad Fund founded SecureSet, an organization that provides training to people interested in cybersecurity. Another organization, CyberSeek, provides information and tools to help workers and businesses close the job gap in this industry. It’s estimated that by 2021, there will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs in the US.

Cyber Technology and the Military

Fund, of SecureSet, set up a six-month training course in Denver and Colorado Springs. He says that 40% of the Denver cyber tech students are veterans. Former military personnel trying to gain new skills have created a pipeline to these courses. An interest in cyber technology is exactly what the military is looking for right now, particularly in the Navy.

According to a statement last month by Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Mike Gilday, the Navy may start testing each incoming sailor for their digital skills. The Navy and other military branches need to improve their cyber capabilities, with the threat of cyber attacks such as hacking sensitive military information, rising. Adm. Gilday also says he wants to find more recruits who could excel in digital operations with proper training.

The military is not a bad path to take if you’re interested in a career in cyber technology. This is a ticket to the unlimited potential within the military itself or in civilian life afterward.

Opportunities for You

There are military opportunities for skilled cyber technicians right here in Colorado, where the Air Force base in Colorado Springs recruits men and women who want to make a difference for their country.

Working for the Air Force, Navy, or Army offers many opportunities for advancement in those military branches, of course, particularly for cyber technology experts. If you graduate from Pickens’ Cyber Technician program, you could be at the forefront of the new emphasis on cybersecurity in the military and part of the wave of new cyber techs joining the private industry in Colorado and throughout the US.

Whether you choose military service or not, instructor Joe “Chief” Bowen’s Cyber Technician class is sure to set you up with many job opportunities right after you graduate, civilian or otherwise. If you want a ticket to one of the largest opportunities and job markets in the country right now, Pickens’ Cyber Technician course is a great place to start.
